South Carolina vs. North Carolina: The Tar Heels got off to a slow start but they finished strong as they defeated South Carolina 24-20 in their season opener. Trailing 20-9 starting the 4th quarter, freshman quarterback Sam Howell led North Carolina on two touchdown drives as UNC outscored the Gamecocks 15-0 in the final quarter. Howell went 15-25 for 245 yards and two touchdowns in the game. UNC ran for a total of 245 yards with Jamyest Williams rushing for 102 yards, Michael Carter rushed for 77 yards and Antonio Williams rushing for 53 yards. For South Carolina, quarterback Jake Bentley was 16-30 for 142 yards, two interceptions, and a touchdown. Clemson transfer Tavien Feaster ran for 72 yards and a touchdown for the Gamecocks.
